Glam Media, Inc.
Atako

Glam Media envisioned the idea to create a platform for developers to create customizable “widget” applications for publishers to easily place on their blogs or sites in the Glam Network. We were asked to develop a user-model and interface to support both the developer environment where the apps are built as well as the publisher area where the apps are purchased, customized and ultimately deployed to multiples of publishers’ sites.

CHALLENGE + SOLUTION
The Challenge: We needed to understand the breadth of building a Web-based environment that could sustain both developers and publishers to do what they do best - build great widget-apps and then deploy them. We needed to make this as easy to use as the Appel App-store, but flexible enough to accommodate all the functionality for publishers to manage these apps acrosss multiple sites that they own.

We worked with Glam Media's talented Engineering team to work through all the functional requirements and then pushing through the primary and secondary workflows necessary for both publishers and developers. After those nuances were worked out, we explored different ways to organize and present the interface that would be understandble and of course useable for a good valume of use. The system needed to be easy to come back to and manipulate the apps or tweak the publishing settings easily. The store follows a simple model that showcases apps that are rising in popularity as well as offers Glam the ability to showcase key apps that they are choosing to feature. Developers have flexibility to build apps in the Web app or reference their code elsewhere.
“Zaudhaus helped us think through complex usability challenges and make the complex simple. Even their wireframes were beautiful—it was a pleasure working with their team.”
