Two Engineers from a previous client approached us to help them put a “Cinematic Experience” on top of a simple concept - to allow independent film producers to distribute their films in full HD/DVD quality online; and consumers to enjoy them with a familiar, television-like-simple interface. They also had developed mathematical ways to quickly learn and provide relevant suggestions to users over time.

CHALLENGE + SOLUTION
The Challenge: The most challenging parts of this product design were two items. First, we had to develop an interface that could be easily used from 10-feet away. That level of simplicity was paramount to wide acceptance. The second was making the system different from the YouTubes of the Net and something still interesting and more cinematic. With a space that was getting crowded fast, differentiation was important, but the user-experience was the real key.

We've developed several versions of the Dovetail interface over the last two years since it's launch. The latest you see here, in black and grey as we evolved to a model that we feel shows off the content in optimal cinematic style. Functionally, the showcase of videos when the system first launches is the most dramatic. We did this in order to quickly engage users with a variety of visual options to choose from. Clicking a video brings up details and a preview. Mousing-over the video brings up a brief synopsis. With increased competition, the challenge today is encouraging great content and making the system even easier to use and share.
“Vic and the Zaudhaus team helped us sculpt our vision, then used their interaction, web and artistic skills to design an application even better than what we’d imagined.”
