Herb Information Guides
The Herb Research Foundation in Colorado approached us to redesign their brochure system - an immense collection of resource materials for more than 500 herbs. A non-profit, the guides provide funding for the research the group does to promote herbal awareness in various communities in the country. We sought a solution that could bring the complexity of medicinal and historical information to a mass audience and still be effective in facilitating understanding.

The Challenge:
Take the complexity and unregulated information of herbal research and turn it into a format that consumers would both understand and find useful and attractive. Help people see the values and benefits to use herbs in their everyday lives.
We started by breaking down the information content for the brochures into simple outlines and then prioritized the information necessary for each borchure. Then, we developed different approaches for how we'd display each of the different types of information. This information architecture for the brochure design helped us clarify the type of visual design necessary to best present the information. Finally, we ensured that all the information, together, read well and was modular enough to handle variations in content. We developed a system for highlighting key benefits on the cover; juxtaposed with a strong visual image of the herb, itself - to better teach consumers about how to recognize the herb.
